Book Review: House of Mist by María Luisa Bombal

I (being Mexican, we always think WE are the center of Latinx Culture, the origin) always thought that Juan Rulfo was the first writer of magical realism with his masterpiece Pedro Páramo (1955). It turns out that (as it happens, women’s accomplishments get sidelined) the first one was María Luisa Bombal, from Chile. Her most famous work is House of Mist (1934). It is so good! In little over 100 pages she packs an amazingly addictive, sexy and mysterious story about a woman who has an affair with a mysterious man. But was he real though?
